About EstimateBase
What things actually cost to build in your county this quarter, from contractors who just built them.
What we do
A contributed cost database with real geography. Contractors submit anonymised actual line-item costs from completed jobs, and receive back the aggregated, verified cost of every assembly in their own county, updated quarterly, with the spread rather than just a mean so they can see the range. Costs are separated into material, labour and equipment with local labour rates, and every figure shows the sample size behind it. It is a cooperative: contribute your data, get everyone else's.
Who we built it for
Residential and light commercial general contractors, remodellers, estimators and insurance adjusters who price work and are currently guessing at regional costs.
The problem
Published cost databases are national averages adjusted by a crude regional multiplier, and they are wrong by 20 to 40 percent in any specific market.
Contractors price from memory and from last year's job, so they underbid and lose money or overbid and lose the job.
Material costs have moved violently and no reference has kept up.
Try it before anything else
The free directory preview runs in your browser with no account. Try the search and filters on example project costs, and see how narrowing it down works. Open it.
The one promise
The free tool on this site is genuinely free and genuinely useful. It does not withhold the answer behind an email form, it does not degrade after a trial, and it does not exist to harvest your data. If it helps you and you never pay us, that is a fine outcome.
See how finding the right one will work
Search, filter and sort example project costs by category, region, total cost and contractor rating. The entries are examples, not real project costs. Runs in your browser. No account, no card, no call.
